Delhi on rain watch as IMD forecasts thunderstorms; intense monsoon spell to sweep across India; what travellers need to know

Delhi may experience heavy rains in the coming days, as per forecasts by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), where rains, storms, and gusty winds are expected in the capital region while a larger monsoon cycle is intensifying conditions in many parts of India.According to the most recent IMD forecast, heavy rain spells are expected in Delhi until July 1st to 3rd along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 40-50 kmph in some isolated areas. The forecasted weather condition can bring respite from the previous warm and humid climate but may pose challenges in terms of waterlogging and traffic congestion. This weather condition in Delhi can be part of a larger monsoon-driven system that would affect north-western India. States like Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh may also experience rains in the coming days. Weather conditions in East Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh may become more intense, with thundersqualls potentially reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph. The fresh rainfall activity comes as the southwest monsoon continues to advance across the country. The IMD noted that the monsoon has progressed into additional parts of Madhya Pradesh while covering the remaining regions of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. It has also expanded into parts of Uttar Pradesh, most of Uttarakhand and sections of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. Conditions remain favourable for further advancement into remaining northwestern regions over the next few days.
