AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship 2026-27 – Eligibility, Amount, State-Wise Seats & How to Apply

This article covers the AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship (Young Achievers’ Scholarship and Holistic Academic Skills Venture Initiative), run by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for engineering and diploma students, applied for on yashasvi.aicte.gov.in. This is a different scheme from PM-YASASVI (PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India), which is run by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment for OBC/EBC/DNT students in Class 9 and 11, applied for through the National Scholarship Portal. The two names sound almost identical, so make sure you’re on the correct scheme before applying.

The AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship Scheme, commenced in Academic Year 2024-25, supports meritorious students pursuing First Year Degree or Diploma level engineering courses in core branches – Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agriculture Engineering, and Textile Technology – at AICTE-approved technical institutions. The scheme aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s push to strengthen core engineering education in India.

AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship 2026-27 – Overview

AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship Amount

Note: These figures (₹50,000 for Degree, ₹30,000 for Diploma) are as stated in the official AICTE YASHASVI Scheme Guidelines 2024. Some third-party sources report different amounts (₹18,000 for Degree/PG and ₹12,000 for Diploma) for the 2026 cycle, which may indicate a subsequent revision to the scheme. Confirm the current applicable amount on the official AICTE YASHASVI portal or aicte.gov.in before publishing or advising students.

AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must be admitted to the First Year of a Degree or Diploma level engineering course at any AICTE-approved institution, OR
  • The candidate must be admitted to the Second Year of a Degree/Diploma course through Lateral Entry at any AICTE-approved institution.
  • Family income from all sources must not exceed ₹8 lakh per annum during the current financial year, supported by a valid income certificate issued by the State/UT Government.
  • The gap between the year of passing the qualifying examination and the year of admission to the Degree/Diploma course must not exceed two years.
  • The scholarship is applicable only to core engineering branches – Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Agriculture Engineering, and Textile Technology.

Number of Scholarships and State/UT-Wise Distribution

A total of 5,200 scholarships are earmarked per annum under this scheme – 2,593 for Degree courses and 2,607 for Diploma courses – distributed State/UT-wise based on the proportionate share of allotted Degree/Diploma seats in AICTE-approved institutions in that State/UT.

Note: If a state’s proportionate allocation works out to fewer than 10 scholarships, AICTE ensures a minimum of 10 scholarships are still allotted to that State/UT (already reflected in the table above).

How to Apply for AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship 2026-27 – Step by Step

  1. Visit the AICTE Scholarship Portal at yashasvi.aicte.gov.in.
  2. Register and complete the required verification process (eKYC/OTP as applicable) as per the portal’s instructions.
  3. Log in and select the AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship scheme from the list of available schemes.
  4. Fill in your personal, academic, and income details accurately.
  5. Upload the required documents – including your qualifying examination mark sheet, income certificate, and other supporting documents as specified on the portal.
  6. Review your application carefully and submit it. Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.
  7. Your host institution will verify your online application as the first level of scrutiny.
  8. AICTE conducts a second level of verification/scrutiny before finalizing the merit list.

Note: The official guidelines state that “applications will be invited once in a year through the AICTE Scholarship Portal,” but do not specify a fixed calendar window. Public sources indicate the application period has historically fallen between October and December, though this should be reconfirmed on the AICTE YASHASVI portal each year, as exact opening and closing dates can vary.

Selection Criteria

Degree Level Students

  • Selection is based solely on merit in the qualifying examination (12th grade) for admission to the core engineering Degree branch.
  • Lateral Entry candidates are selected based on the average consolidated percentage across all 6 semesters of their Diploma, limited to 10% of the total seat allocation in the respective state.
  • If a state’s calculated allocation is below 10 scholarships, a minimum of 10 will still be allotted to that State/UT.
  • A State/UT-wise merit list is prepared according to the number of scholarships allotted.

Diploma Level Students

  • Selection is based solely on merit in the qualifying examination (10th grade) for admission to the core engineering Diploma branch.
  • If a state’s calculated allocation is below 10 scholarships, a minimum of 10 will still be allotted to that State/UT.
  • A State/UT-wise merit list is prepared according to the number of scholarships allotted.

Note: If Lateral Entry quota seats remain unoccupied, they may be allocated to the open category, and vice versa.

Tie-Breaking Criteria

Degree Level Students

  • If percentile in the qualifying (12th) examination does not break a tie, the candidate with a higher percentage in the 10th examination is ranked higher.
  • If the 10th examination percentile still does not break the tie, the older candidate is ranked higher.

Diploma Level Students

  • If percentage in the 10th examination does not break a tie, the older candidate is ranked higher.

CGPA to Percentage Conversion Rules

  • To convert CGPA into percentage: CGPA × 9.5 = Percentage.
  • If both CGPA and total marks are given on the mark sheet, total marks will be considered.
  • If grades (A1, A2, B1, B2, etc.) are given, grades are first converted to CGPA, the average CGPA is calculated, and this is then converted to percentage using the formula above.

Renewal of AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship

  • The scholarship is renewed for the next year of study upon submission of the passing certificate/mark sheet, along with a letter from the Head of the Institution, on the online portal.
  • Students who are not promoted to the next class/level will forfeit the scholarship.

Important Terms & Conditions

  • Reservation is applied as per Government of India norms.
  • If a reserved-category student also qualifies in the General Category merit list, they will be counted under the General Category.
  • Only verified online applications are considered; incomplete applications are summarily rejected.
