NCP (SP) MP Amol Kolhe triggers defection buzz with 'Mahayuti' remark, issues clarification later
NCP (SP) MP Amol Kolhe clarified his recent statement, asserting it was misinterpreted and referred to the Pune-Nashik railway project, not a political switch.

PUNE: After causing a political flutter with his statement on Wednesday that if an offer comes to him from Mahayuti, he will think about it, NCP (SP) MP Amol Kolhe on Thursday claimed that his statement was taken out of context.Kolhe said his statement was misconstrued. He told media persons, “I was speaking in the context of the delayed Pune-Nashik railway project. Responding to a question, I said that if the proposal regarding the railway project comes, I will think about it. It was not related to a political switchover.”Against the backdrop of the recent switching of six MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) to Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Kolhe’s statement led to speculation regarding a possible switch of some NCP (SP) members to the Mahayuti. The senior NCP (SP) leadership refuted the speculation. Former state chief Jayant Patil said that the party remains united. Karjat Jamkhed MLA Rohit Pawar claimed that no MP or MLA is going to switch to Mahayuti.Kolhe also refuted speculation that the Mahayuti may engineer another split in Sharad Pawar’s party. Kolhe said, “We do not take such rumours seriously. All eight MPs of our party continue to remain united with the party. We will continue to follow the path decided by our party chief Sharad Pawar.”
