Two locals held in sex trafficking case

T’puram: Thumba police on Monday arrested two local men in connection with a sex trafficking racket allegedly operated from a rented house at Kulathoor in the capital. The arrested were identified as Asif of Andoorkonam and Adheesh Krishnan of Pothencode, both of 28. Police said the duo had rented a house in Kattela area, Kulathoor, and were allegedly coordinating prostitution activities by illegally accommodating foreign women. The arrests came a day after police took into custody two Thai nationals, Sirilak (42) and Sukanya (29), during a raid at the rented premises. According to police, the Thai women did not possess valid visas. They were taken into custody for violating immigration norms. Police also detained another woman found at the premises during the raid. However, she was released after officials verified that she possessed valid travel and stay documents. Police suspect that the accused were part of a larger human trafficking network involved in bringing foreign women to the state for commercial sexual exploitation. Police sources said further investigations are under way.
